Larock-Granoff
A hundred years of art
'You will end up at the gallery whether you like it or not!'
Decades later, Édouard Larock has never forgotten his grandfather's words. As he prepares to take up the reins of one of the greatest French art galleries, Édouard is continuing the adventure, started a century ago by his great-great aunt: Katia Granoff.
A young Ukrainian poet, a patron and a muse who fled the Russian Revolution, Katia Granoff became one of the rare female art dealers of the early twentieth century. She devoted her life to tirelessly championing works by some of the most influential artists of her time, catapulting/propelling/precipitating Bouche, Ozenfant, Friesz and Chagall into the limelight and revering the avant-garde quality inherent in Monet's final work, Water Lilies, before anyone else.
More than an artistic journey through the annals of art history, this book recounts Katia Granoff's story and also that of a family legacy. Her nephew Pierre worked with his son Marc to showcase modern artists: Hantaï, Hartung, Messagier and Rebeyrolle before turning his attention to post-Impressionism and the Rouen School with his son Pierre. Today, Edouard and Marc show emerging contemporary artists while always welcoming art enthusiasts and lovers into their gallery.
A story brimming with humanity at every page that tells the tale of this epic Parisian gallery.
